    A Brief History

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield founded Ben & Jerry’s in 1978. The first location was in Burlington, Vermont and the first distribution center was down the street in an old spool and bobbin mill. The company quickly garnered customers’ attention with their creative marketing campaigns like free cone day and their World Record setting “largest ice cream sundae” at 27,102 pounds. One of their most memorable marketing campaigns came in the form of the “Cowmobile”. The modified mobile home was used to hand out free scoops of ice cream by Ben and Jerry themselves. The ice cream distributor remained under the founders control until 2000 when it was sold to Unilever.
