    A Brief History

    Gold’s Gym was founded in 1965 by none other than bodybuilder and ex-Marine, Joe Gold.The original facility featured homemade equipment and had a popular following of bodybuilders, including the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dave Draper. The company changed hands several time before landing in the hands of Ken Sprague, who be the person to lead the company into the successful chain it was today. By 1975 Sprague began sponsoring bodybuilding contests at the establishment and produced a movie called “Pumping Iron”. The film depicted the gym and brought attention to bodybuilding and the physique culture of the time.
