    A Brief History

Banana Republic’s beginning is almost as interesting as the exotic clothing they first started selling. Founded by married couple, Mel and Patricia Ziegler, the retailer originally had a safari theme to it. The founders were known for acquiring clothing during their travels abroad and wanted to open a store where they could sell similar products. When they opened their first location they had very little funds and resorted to hand-drawing their catalogue of items with fictional stories printed beside them. By the year 1983, the company was acquired by Gap. Inc and was rebranded into a mainstream luxury clothing retailer.
